Gustav’s Gulf
By dan | August 31, 2008
Oil and gas prices are now under the control of Hurricane Gustav. As of this moment the Gulf of Mexico is Gustav’s Gulf.
The previous week we have seen the “gulf” between diesel fuel and unleaded gas prices closing. There is about an average $.30 cent spread between the two.
However, now that oil drilling will be suspended in the gulf and facilities handling oil processing and transportation are preparing for Gustav, the rest of the U.S. should expect to see prices going right back up.
If you can afford to, it may be a smart idea to fill up your tanks while prices are at their current levels. Then again, what the hey, if gas goes up a dime or a quarter per gallon in the next week so what. We can do it. We are Americans. We will overcome Gustav.

AP is reporting today how oil prices are down, and how Hurricane Gustav is not affecting a rise in oil prices. They are not being totally honest and forthcoming in this report. Yes oil futures are down. Gas prices went up $.07 seven cents over-night up here on the north coast and home of Wisconsin’s only petroleum refinery, Murphy Oil. Sunday, August 31, 2008 unleaded was $3.729 per gallon. Today, Monday, September 1, 2008 it is $3.799 per gallon.
