Energy prices rise amidst declining gas prices.
By dan | December 12, 2008
Hello fellow Americans and I hope you’re having a pleasant holiday. I was having a good holiday, and I still will even though I got word today that I don’t think my local Superior Wisconsin friends and neighbors wanted to hear. Today, Superior Water Light and Power (SWLP) which is an Allete wholly-owned subsidiary will be increasing their rates charged for electricity and water. Energy prices rise amidst lower gas prices?
P.S. Natural gas rate will decline .6%! Whoopieeeee!
Gas price is down because of a glut on oil. Oil prices are down. That also means the cost to generate the power is… you guessed right, down.
Strange – how the Superior Telegram has an online article related to this but dated Published Wednesday December 31 2008. Minnesota Power requested wholesale rate increases. The article predicted passage of the rate adjustments by FERC to be complete by late 2008 or 2009.
The estimate is this will grow revenue for Allete by almost $8 million annually. That doesn’t sound like much now and probably didn’t when Minnesota Power made the request.
Lots has changed since then. Congress is spending like drunken sailors in a Superior bar. The unemployment is running rampant as businesses are planning layoffs of thousands of workers.
Our own government can’t control its tax and spend policy but wants to try to make us believe they know what will save the financial industry and the auto industry. More tax and spend. Lately its been a bit different … spend and tax.
So how can Allete justify activating these energy price increases as average Americans enter what will possibly be a rough winter while depression looms on our social economic horizon?
Well… I don’t have much else to say. Take care. Save your money. Stay warm!
